The Functional Skills maths course is designed to help you to update your skills, fill a gap on your CV if you missed out on a GCSE qualification at school, to give you the confidence to support your child at school or just prove that you do maths.Note that a pre-course assessment may be required for this course. Functional Skills Maths is a nationally recognised qualification which stands alone or can help you to access the GCSE course.Your tutor will assess what skills you already have in each of these areas, and plan your learning according to your needs.Your progress will be recorded in an individual learning plan (ILP), which is completed by yourself and your tutor. For this course, you must have a desire and an ambition to gain a maths qualification.You will that this course may not be suitable for adults who do not have English as their first language. You will work towards a Certificate in Functional Maths at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 or Level 2.It is not suitable for adults who have moderate or severe learning difficulties. Your tutor will provide you with information, advice and guidance about the most suitable qualification and level after your first session. Your first session will be an assessment session (initial assessment) which will allow us to ensure that you are on the right level for this course and that the course is suitable for you.You will that this course may not be suitable for adults who do not have English as their first language. You will work towards a Certificate in Functional Maths at Level 1 or Level 2.The Functional Maths exam is a written problem-solving paper which lasts 1hour and 30 minutes.
Note that a pre-course assessment may be required for this course. It is very important for those wishing to go on to study higher-level courses at college and university.
Your tutor will arrange test sessions for your class as appropriate.
Tests are usually taken in your regular class time and place.
